What is reinforcing mesh?
Arming mesh, also known as fabric or fibreglass mesh, plays a crucial role in the finishing of plaster and masonry surfaces. The glass fibres of the plaster fabric have been reinforced with a latex-based adhesive so that the fabric can easily withstand the stresses that arise during use. In technical terms, latex refers to a liquid dispersion of rubber. The close-meshed reinforcement fabric prevents the formation of cold bridges in the wall and thus supports the even application of the render. Reinforcing mesh is used on a large scale in energy-efficient refurbishment due to its adhesive properties, as the mortar holds poorly on polystyrene insulation boards. The various particles in the liquid latex of the reinforcement fabric create a sticky effect that gives the mortar both grip and structure. As a result, the reinforcing mesh optimally bonds the boards and the mortar, ensuring a good hold in the long term.
In principle, reinforcing mesh is used to prevent cracks and to plaster and improve the structure of walls. Thanks to its high tensile strength and flexibility, it offers an effective solution for protecting your projects from the effects of weathering and mechanical stress. It can be used in a wide variety of areas, whereby the best known and most frequently used areas are certainly building renovation and refurbishment. However, plaster mesh is also used in the construction of new buildings. For example, it can also be used for attaching insulation boards or before laying tiles on the floor. The white reinforcement fabric in our online shop is made of glass fibre fabric, which is not "water-swellable". It is also very stable and tear-resistant, alkali-resistant and displacement-resistant.
Use reinforcement mesh indoors and outdoors
Thanks to its insulating and reinforcing properties, the high-quality reinforcing mesh is suitable for full thermal insulation and thermal insulation composite systems. It can also be used for wall and façade construction to prevent and stop plaster cracks and for façade insulation both indoors and outdoors.
Accordingly, the reinforcing mesh is typically used in the following areas:
- Large-scale renovation work
- Renovations of windows and doors
- Repairs to damage to walls
- Plastering edges and corners
- Energetic refurbishment after ETICS
- Preventing the formation of cracks on walls
The order sizes of the reinforcing mesh
Our reinforcing mesh is sold in rolls of 50 m2 per roll. The order sizes can therefore vary between 50 m2 and 400 m2 depending on the number of rolls ordered. The white plaster fabric has a mesh size of 4 x 4 mm and a material weight of 165 g/m2. It also has a warp strength of 1800 N per 5 cm and a weft strength of 1800 N per 5 cm. The fabric is also alkali-resistant and impregnated to prevent slipping and sliding.
