What exactly is an aviary wire?
The aviary wire usually consists of close-meshed galvanised steel wires, which are firmly welded at the points of contact during production. This creates a so-called "spot-welded mesh" or rectangular four-corner mesh, which is extremely stable. If the aviary wire is damaged by scratches, the relatively easily oxidising zinc causes another zinc oxide layer to form immediately. This means that moisture poses no danger to the steel core of the wire, as it cannot reach it. Accordingly, aviary wire is extremely resistant to a wide range of weather conditions and is perfect for building aviaries for ornamental birds, especially in outdoor areas such as gardens. An aviary wire can therefore be used as a versatile working material. It can be tensioned flexibly and individually, and even tight angles, bends or corners are no obstacle.
The advantages of aviary wire
Building a spacious small animal enclosure with aviary wire is a real treat for your animals. The animals have enough space to express their natural behaviour, which significantly reduces stress and improves their health. Ready-made aviaries made of aviary wire have the disadvantage that they are difficult to adapt to the conditions on site and therefore give the birds less space. We therefore recommend that you construct your aviary yourself using bird wire and simple wooden poles after taking thorough measurements. Thanks to its simple handling, this should also be easy to do and can be customised. If the local conditions are suitable, you can also use the outer wall of a house as the fourth outer side of the aviary.
Another advantage of aviary wire is that it is an effective and safe protection against domestic predators such as martens or owls. In addition to birds, rabbits and guinea pigs, turtles can also be effectively protected by the close-meshed aviary wire in the outdoor area. The robust wire also resists rodents of all kinds, so you don't have to worry about your rabbit biting through the aviary wire and escaping from the small animal enclosure or a marten gaining access to your animals by biting the aviary wire. The meshes can also be larger for larger pets, which is why you can buy aviary wire with different mesh widths from Aquagart.
Other uses for aviary wire in the garden
In addition to being used to build aviaries for birds, there are also other areas in which aviary wire can be used. One application is the protection of flower beds. Wrapping the beds with aviary wire provides effective protection against unwanted visitors such as rodents or birds without affecting the plants. The wire can also be used to construct trellises. Especially for climbing plants such as roses or vines, aviary wire offers an ideal way to give the plants support and enable lush growth. It can also be used to secure ponds. As a cover for these, it protects fish from hungry birds or cats. This cover allows the fish to swim freely in the water without running the risk of being caught by predators
.Aviary wire - the ideal alternative to wire mesh
Although the term mesh is also used here, aviary wire should not be confused with wire mesh. The difference lies in the different properties of the wires: While the contact points of the aviary wire are firmly welded, mesh wire is a rather loose weave of wire that is relatively unstable. Unlike wire mesh, aviary wire is usually rectangular and can be processed more easily thanks to its stable structure. This is why you should mainly use it for more complicated or more heavily used constructions.
