What exactly is an aviary wire?
Ornamental birds at home are becoming increasingly popular. Even if the animals live in an enclosure that initially confines them, care should still be taken to ensure that they are kept in a species-appropriate manner. This includes a sufficiently large and protected space in which the birds have the opportunity to fly and move freely. Large bird houses or aviaries are therefore ideal for keeping birds in a species-appropriate way, reducing stress for the birds and protecting them at the same time.
But aviary wire is not only ideal for keeping birds. The coarse structure of the aviary wire is also specially adapted to the needs of small animals so that they cannot injure themselves on it. This is why aviary wire is also known as rabbit wire, as it can also be used to build enclosures for various small animals.
An aviary wire can be used as a versatile working material. It can be tensioned flexibly and individually, and even tight angles, bends or corners are no obstacle. The aviary wire usually consists of close-meshed galvanised steel wires, which are firmly welded at the points of contact during production. This creates a so-called "spot-welded mesh" or rectangular four-corner mesh, which is extremely stable. If the aviary wire is damaged by scratches, the relatively easily oxidising zinc causes another zinc oxide layer to form immediately. Moisture does not pose a risk to the steel core of the aviary wire as it cannot reach it. Accordingly, aviary wire is extremely resistant to a wide range of weather influences.
The advantages of aviary wire
Building a spacious small animal enclosure with aviary wire is a real treat for your animals. The animals have enough space to express their natural behaviour, which significantly reduces stress and improves their health. Ready-made aviaries made of aviary wire have the disadvantage that they are difficult to adapt to the conditions on site and therefore give the birds less space. We therefore advise you to construct your aviary yourself using aviary wire and simple wooden bars after taking thorough measurements. If the local conditions are suitable, you can also use the outer wall of a house as the fourth outer side of the aviary.
Aviary wire is an effective and safe protection against domestic predators such as martens or owls. In addition to birds, rabbits and guinea pigs, turtles can also be effectively protected by the close-meshed aviary wire in the outdoor area. The robust aviary wire also resists rodents of all kinds, so you don't have to worry about your rabbit biting through the aviary wire and escaping from the enclosure or a marten gaining access to your animals by biting the wire. The meshes can also be larger for larger pets, which is why you can buy aviary wire with different mesh sizes from Aquagart.
Aviary wire - the ideal alternative to wire mesh
Aviary wire is often confused with wire mesh fencing, although there are important differences between the two types. Although the term "mesh width" is also used here, aviary wire should not be confused with wire mesh. The difference lies in the different properties of the wires: While the crossing points of the aviary wire are firmly welded, mesh wire is a rather loose wire mesh that is relatively unstable. Unlike wire mesh, aviary wire is usually rectangular and can be processed more easily thanks to its stable structure. This is why you should use aviary wire, especially for more complicated or more heavily used constructions.
You can buy high-quality aviary wire in the Aquagart online shop! We offer mesh widths of 19 mm x 19 mm and 12 mm x 12 mm as well as different lengths. Take a look around now and buy the right aviary wire for your project!Properties of wire fencing & bird wire
The wire mesh of the fence consists of longitudinal and cross struts. These are firmly connected to each other by spot welding. Wire fencing can also be easily cut to size and still retains its original strength and stability. The wire is characterised by its high weather resistance and is available with rectangular or square mesh. It is also supplied in rolls, allowing you to flexibly cut the pieces you need. Our wire is also made of hot-dip galvanised stainless steel, making it extremely robust.
Use of bird wire & wire fencing
Do you have ornamental birds that need a cage but don't want them to injure themselves on the fencing? Then our wire is just right for you. Due to the varying mesh size and length of the wire fence, you can order exactly the aviary wire that is suitable for your application. As ornamental birds also need a lot of space where they can fly around, we offer you our fence with a length of up to 160 metres! With an aviary wire enclosure, your winged friends not only have enough security, but also enough space to fly.
In addition to a bird cage, our wire fencing is also suitable for other types of small animal enclosures. To do this, you should look for mesh sizes of less than one centimetre. However, if you would like to enclose parts of your property with our wire fence, you can also opt for larger mesh sizes.
Wire fencing can also be used to protect your plants from small animals and birds. The wire is easy to install and provides a reliable barrier without affecting the appearance of your garden too much. They can protect everything from berry bushes to your vegetable patches.
Easy installation of aviary wire
Installing aviary wire is a relatively simple task that can be done with the right tools and a little skill. To install the wire, you will need the right size and roll length, a cutting tool such as wire cutters or pliers, fastening materials (nails or wire staples) and protective gloves to keep you safe while you work.
First, the aviary wire is measured and cut according to the size of the area. You can then attach it to the existing structures using fastening materials such as wire staples, nails or screws, starting at one corner and working evenly along the area. If several pieces of wire need to be used, you should overlap the ends and connect them together. Once installation is complete, carefully check the installed wire fence again to ensure that the wire is firmly and securely attached.
